Poison Ivy Soap Company
Recontamination Information
If you have tried our soap already, you know how great it works. We here at the
Poison Ivy Soap Co. are confident that, when used properly, our soap will remove
urushiol (the poisonous oil found in poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac).
The problem arises when a customer uses the soap on his/her body without
giving any thought to other items that may have come into contact with the plants
or may have urushiol embedded in them. This is how you can become
RECONTAMINATED.
What is urushiol and how does it "spread"?
Urishiol is a true oil or resin that sticks to clothing, shoes, fabric, and outdoor
equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws. USE CAUTION
when mowing, weed eating and burning brush since urushiol can become
airborne.
NEVER BURN POISON IVY!
It can be devastating to those in the immediate area.
Urishiol can also be trapped in animal fur without affecting the animal at all.
Household pets that go in and out can transfer the urushiol onto furniture,
carpeting, bedding, and owners! Bathe your pets in Poison Ivy Soap regularly to
prevent transferring the terrible substance urushiol.
The most recommended natural ingredient for completely
removing urushiol is jewelweed.
What should you do if you think you have been exposed?
Jewelweed has been known for centuries for its natural ability to remove urushiol
and soothe certain skin irritations. Some products contain jewelweed but also
include other ingredients that can worsen the condition. To ensure safety and
satisfaction, and to preserve the beneficial qualities of the jewelweed, there are no
irritating ingredients in our Poison Ivy Soap. (Please note: our Poison Ivy Soap is
not a prewash soap. It is to be used after exposure and not before.)
If you have come into contact with poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac, place
exposed clothing into the washer before showering. Normal laundry detergent
may remove the residue from clothing. However, for those with extreme allergies,
rub a bar of Poison Ivy Soap across a cheese grater (don't use it for cheese after
this) and put the soap flakes into the washing machine with the contaminated
clothes. Remember not to touch your towel until after you have thoroughly and
completely washed the urushiol from your entire body. The ingredients in our
Poison Ivy Soap are safe enough for prophylactic (preventative) daily treatment for
those who may experience frequent exposure. In fact, we have had some excellent
reports from loggers working in the Southeast who use Poison Ivy Soap as part of
their daily routine.
For outdoor equipment, try using mineral spirits to remove the urushiol from
non-porous surfaces, such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws.
An interesting historical note: urushiol found in tombs and caves left undisburbed
for hundreds of years has been shown to be active. Don't be fooled into thinking
enough time has passed to render the substance inactive and "safe".
What Poison Ivy Soap does not help:
While jewelweed in its most basic form may help certain other skin irritations, our
Poison Ivy Soap will not help relieve symptoms from hives, eczema, psoriasis,
shingles, or any other type of dermatitis. Urushiol may worsen these conditions,
which you may not even have known previously that you had. From personal
experience, some people believe they have a poison ivy rash when in fact they
have hives or a heat rash. Our Poison Ivy Soap may not be of much help, so
re-think your line of treatment.
If you have followed all of these suggestions and the rash still won't go away or
isn't relieved, contact us for a refund.
